An International Assignment!

By: Bruce Biegler (August 31/06)

The fast growing reputation of E.R.D. has reached beyond the confines of North America. Company owner Carl Spiering will in fact this weekend be off to “Jolly ‘Ol England” to act as a consultant for a Pro Modified team owned by Gordon Appleton. Carl will hopefully help that aspiring team reach a new plateau of performance in preparation for the European Drag Racing Series final event of 2006 at Santa Pod the following weekend.

“A very short time ago Gordon contacted me and made arrangements for me to come to England,” said Spiering. “They have been following my progress the last couple of years and I’m honored that they recognized our ability and are asking for our help. They have a very nice Andy Robinson built ’68 Camaro Pro Mod. It has a full strength Brad Anderson motor. They are competitive right now but they want to try to run up front in the European series and that’s where I will fit in.”

Carl will lend his services during an open test session at Santa Pod Friday and Saturday and return to Canada on Sunday.

“I’m excited about this opportunity,” he added. “I’ve never been to Great Britain or Europe but I’ve always wanted to go. I’ve been following their circuit for some time now and I know there are some terrific teams and lots of innovation over there. I also have a person goal about going overseas (including Australia) to actually race someday. Maybe this will help to set the foundation for all that to happen. I also consider this a great opportunity to potentially expand the customer base for our company E.R.D.”

The assignment in England is once again solid proof of just how much an international sensation Pro Modified class racing is. It has evolved well beyond being a North American phenomena and is now arguably the most popular and recognized single drag racing category on the world wide stage.
