Carl
“Big Dog” Spiering is apparently not the only
skilled driver on the Carl Spiering Motorsports Eaton Cutler
Hammer Pro Modified team.
Just one week before the IHRA Mopar Canadian
Nationals, dedicated team truck driver Bob Sackrider had a
rather lucrative weekend himself while racing his 1967 Chevelle
SS Super Pro ET car over in Michigan.
Bob was in competition at one of Ubly Dragway’s
$10,000 to win events and raked in a cool $2400 when he placed
runner-up in a 9 round 138-car shoot out. Bob was a picture
of consistency in his car including no less then 5-straight
9.59 secs elapsed times during eliminations and a razor sharp
.002 RT. For the final he did have the opportunity to split
the purse when his scheduled competition made the offer –
however he optioned not to. In the final he went .498 red
while chasing down an 18-second car to just miss a huge payday.
“I must thank my crew chief Jim Bayless
as well as Carl and Terry Vince,” said Bob, who lives
in Ayr, ON. “Over the off season Carl made me remove
a lot of gadgets and we made the car a lot simpler to tune
and drive. That really helped with my consistency.”
Bob
reported that while his intentions are not to replace Carl
behind the wheel of the team’s Pro Mod Chevy Camaro,
if Carl were to mess up he felt he should be considered for
the seat.
“I’d like to think that my performance
puts some pressure on Carl,” he mused. “Maybe
if he can’t drive sometime – I will.”
Bob’s spectacular SS Chevelle, which
has been in his possession since 1983 features a 396 CID engine.
Because of his busy schedule transporting Carl’s Pro
Modified team operation all across North America his own weekend
racing endeavors are infrequent.
